A tribute to my beloved 3-legged pal, who left this world on Sept. 14, 2009. I got her from a shelter in 1998... she'd lost a leg after being hit by a car while pregnant, and endured a terrible case of mange. Her first two years were not easy ones, but she was still cheerful and friendly.
I wasn't looking to adopt a dog, but she stole my heart the moment we met. She'd been there for almost a year, because nobody wanted a "crippled" dog. Peg was far from crippled- in her prime, she was as active as any dog, and quieter and gentler than most. I didn't adopt her out of pity; I could tell she'd been waiting for me, and I for her. It was destiny.
It was a blessing to share so much of my life with such a wonderful soulmate... very hard to say goodbye, but it was worth it. I got back so much more than I gave!!
Support your local animal shelter, and don't believe the hype about Rottweilers!!
