Annual marbleizing of two pieces within the Bauhaus design I painted for a client's powder room. The original design of a year ago incorporated a stylized Green Onyx, and this year's marble is Portoro (or Black & Gold marble).

Portoro is a limestone from Italy, often referred to as a marble, from the Jurassic period. For the painted version, I used a matte water-based basecoat (black), and Golden acrylics for the design. The whole design was painted with a single ox-hair brush. For the finishing coats, I brushed on 5 coats of water-based lacquer with sanding in between coats (only after the 3rd coat) with 600 sandpaper, and on the final coat, 600 and 1200 sandpaper. For the finishing touches, I used a NASCAR 3M polish cream with 1200 sandpaper and a rag to buff out the shine.
