This rare kawasaki is a UK spec motorcycle but generally bought in japan so is rare to see in the U.K. Fantastic condition considering the age of the bike (6 years older than the owner!) A truly fantastic motorcycle and all rounder.

  • I just bought a 1989 gpz400 but i can't find parts for it anywhere! Do you have any idea where parts are available, the entire engine has to be rebuilt so any ideas would be amazing. Thanks

    Jeremy

  • @maritimesoul Depends where you are, If your UK based I've got a cracking parts distributor I know of but haven't actually needed but know of and they will get everything straight from japan any kawasaki model.

    Cheers, Chris

  • @chrislegend06 I'm actually in canada :o/ would that UK company still deal overseas though? i'd still like to get some parts, so if you can pass on their info to me and i'll see if they can help me out that'd be great!

  • @smiffie37 hmm yeah but parts will be easier for the 550. But yeah you change the engine and it's not a 400 anymore haha. So things may be mismatch etc. Get some photo's posted to me would be great to see some progression. chris.eden@hotmail.com

  • @chrislegend06 Yeah mine is a ZX400 CII also. The bike I bought came with a 400 engine down as a non-runner.. Will strip it down to see what he damage is, but straight away i've seen the cam chain tensioner is missing..

It did come with a 550 engine and sports exhaust also though so I may be able to just fit that in instead, although I think i'd prefer it to be a 400 to keep it more original

    Regards

    James

  • @smiffie37 Well basically, I bought this not only because I wanted a bigger bike now that I could, but because the thing is just as you say, a rarity. The model number is hard to define but I think Mine is called a ZX400-CII where as most of your parts will be under Z400. The haynes manual is good as allways especially when the likes of julian ryder are involved with these books. These bikes are really imports but are said to be "uk spec". Originally made to suit japanese laws for the japs.

  • @chrislegend06 Nice one Chris! I'll be sure to keep in touch. Just need to get the bike home; everything is currently up at work while I make the space, then there will be many many evenings ahead playing with everything. I've managed to get a haynes owners workshop manual for the bike which will no doubt prove to be very helpful!

What do you know about the rarity of the bike, production numbers?

    Regards

    James

  • @smiffie37 Anything you need my friend, just post me them. I have worked on the bike quite a lot so my knowledge of it is fairly good. Good luck with the bike, you will be so pleased with it I can assure you once done:)

  • Cool video with some great pics - nice one!

I've just bought one myself to restore, a 1986 model. Would you be able to give me any more info on the bike?

    Thanks!
