Southern Rail are installing oystercard readers at Sydenham Station as part of the preperation for the coming of the East London Line in 2010.
They are cutting corners and saving money by cutting access to the station from one side of the tracks only.
Mothers with prams, travellers with luggage will have to walk further use an inconvenient footbridge.
Disabled people will have to ring for attention and wait in the wind, rain and cold.
I live in South Yorkshire now but as a South London resident of 30+ years and regular visitor since, I have to say I am bitterly disappointed. In the 1980s the big idea for commuter areas was to open multiple accesses to stations to save on the costs of opening multiple stations. Here is a perfect example of how this idea could have really worked. The (Blair, Brown, does it matter?)-promised "joined up thinking" is absent, my friends... It exists only in our hearts and minds - for now!

I often have truble getting accross the footbridge ith my bike, wish the gate was open would be easy to get in. Why dont they construct a small entrance on the gate side
