This has become a standard in Scotland but was actually written by two Germans! and only in 1982. The story can be read here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_Cathedral Usually played on the bagpipes here is my mandolin version. It is followed by The Battle of the Somme - a Pipe Retreat March in 9/8 time written after that infamous Battle by Pipe Major William Lawrie who died shortly thereafter of his wounds. The story can be read here - http://www.cubic-design.co.uk/osler-cubic/pipingportal/feature4.html . The set finishes with another march - the 72nd Highlanders Farewell to Edinburgh
