and probably the only reason why the majority of the comments that are posted are against it is because people that don't mind it know how it is

you people that are against this, should really know ALL OF THE FACTS before you start making a deal out of it, no matter what you people do, this race will continue on, it's a tradition in the town of omak and to the people of the colville indian reservation. the horses that race in the race are some of the most well cared for horses, visit omak and go to the stampede for yourself to actually see, the stampede is always THE 2ND WEEKEND IN AUGUST, bring the fam, hope to see you all there!

Horses wouldn't vuluntarily run down a hill like that in the wild unless they were being chased. A horse's normal and natural response if he had to go down a hill like this would be to slowly proceed, with the hind end kinda tucked under and sliding down. HOrses don't intentionally gallop headlong down a hill that could kill them, they are smarter than that.

These horses are amazing!!! and VERY spoiled throughout the year! they are built for this and LOVE doing it, cause if they didnt love it they would stop at the top and send the rider flyin forward..

"The horses aren't pushed?" Yeah, that's why all the riders in all the videos I've seen are smacking their horses with each stride down the hill. I have a hill that isn't even as steep as this one in my pasture and I would never charge my mare down it.

People like this disgust me! Who would do that to a horse! It's cruel and tiring! Going down a hill like that at neck braking speed then swimming threw that river smacking the horse along the way then galloping up that hill! How would you like it! I've been riding for nearly 10 years and this is horrible! This race should be banned!!!
