I did a lot of work porting the cylinder head to make the engine rev so freely. The stock exhaust ports are originally are nearly square. The exhaust headers have nearly round ports and a lot of material had to be removed from the head casting to match the two. I also cut off the bottoms of the exhaust guides, although I do not think this makes a big difference. The intake is also port matched. I was a bit concerned about the huge amount of material removed from the head around the exhaust ports, but so far we have about 8 races on this engine and it has performed superbly.
The brake lines on this GT6 are copper nickel alloy. Please visit my website to purchase a kit for your Triumph http://www.austinhealeywood.com/brakelines.html

What we did over the winter: Added a much stiffer rear spring, welded up the differential, Increased the size of the engine crankcase breather substantially, removed the drive shaft and had it balanced to perfection.
Also we got a new set of light weight wheels

  • Hello . I love your car . We just finished restoring a Vintage GT6 Race car and I have a question . We just installed a new Motor Balanced , mild cam 10.5 to 1 CR and the same Weber setup you have . Now the question . Can yoiu give me your Weber Jet settings you are currently running . Main Jet Emulsion Air and Idle. as well as Venturi size. It will give me an excelent starting point for out carb tuning. Thanks Andrew

  • @MrMacLaurin

    What's in the car now:

    Main jet: 125

    Emulsion: F11

    Air jet: 190

    Idle jet: 45F9

    Pump jet: 35

    Pump Ex. Valve: 050

  • Can you tell me, is this a 2.0 or a 2.5 engine, and is that basically open pipes, or is there some kind of baffles in it?

  • It is a 2 liter. This is a vintage race car so must comply to a number of restrictive rules. The exhaust has two straight through cherry bomb mufflers. One on each pipe.

  • whats the power to weight ratio? i always wanted to know with mine...but you have got a 6 cylinder, with a triple carburetor setup...a little different...lol i want yours....

  • I would say it is about 12:1 or 11:1. It could be better with some more engine mods. I would not recommend the Weber carbs for the street unless you get a cam and a set of headers and port the heads out . Also they are tricky to set up.

  • Fantastic car. It puts me to shame as a UK based ex GT6 owner. All I could manage was to run my into a cow late one hot August night! I look lovingly at what you Americans have have done with that beautiful and hugely underrated car. It is just leaps and bounds better looking than any of the MG roadsters.

  • My brother has a triple webered TR6 and I have a hotted up TR8 on the street. I raced a Spitfire many years ago. Always liked the GT6, although I understand they don't handle as nice as the Spitfire on the race track?

  • @Porsche9elfer could you upload a clip of your street GT6?

  • I'll see you at NHIS :)

  • Thanks... I'm doing a similar configuration with a Vitesse (Basically the same chassis) at the moment, although more focussed towards a higher performance road car.

  • This car is freakin' awesome man, nice work! With so many TR6's and Spits built up, it's nice to see a GT6 for once. Nice Job!
