This is a video I made for a presentation on Dog Agility. It is a very basic introduction to the sport and shows the most common obstacles and the general structure you might see at competitions. It doesn't go into all the finer details and rules of competition (which vary greatly between different organizations), or every possible obstacle (which also varies with different organizations). It is rather meant as a very basic introduction for someone that wants to know, in general, what is involved in the sport.

The dog featured at the end ("lets watch it all together now at a real trial" part) is my very own Dazzle. The filming was done at local agility trails including NADAC and AKC events.

Some of the dogs in the video (sorry, I can't remember everyone's name!):

Harley, Quickie, Sabre, Wendell, Stone, Elf, Dazzle, Cheers, Trooper, Pinot, Spike, Zesty, Missy, Peanut, Glory, Colin, Crystal, Lucky, Althea, Crystal, Lacey, Zoe, Scamp, Ricky, Bonsai, Gretchen, and Gael.

Enjoy!

  • I think my puppy, ella, might benefit from this. can agility be done just for fun and not for a tournament? is that silly? I just would love to nurture that ability in her but only for fun and for her to have a therapeutic experience. and then if she likes it .... who knows, right?

  • That would be great! Tons of people, most I would say - start with the intention of doing it just for fun. Often later the decide to compete but plenty just train and play with their dogs without ever competing. :)

  • How tall is your border collie?

  • She has measurements at 19", 20" and at 20 1/4" - so somewhere in that range....

  • that on the end was your dog right? AMAZING DOG!! GREAT VIDEO! but can i trene my when he is 5? :S i dont know it.... :D AWESOME VIDEO! 1000/1000 okey xD 5/5

  • It is never too late to start training your dog! Just make sure your dog is physically healthy before you start any jumping with him (you can ask your vet if you want to be sure that it's okay).

  • You did a great job on your video. How amazing! You have trained Dazzle well. I bet you have many prizes for dog agility.

  • You and Dazzle are sooooo good, I saw your distance work in another video, it was amazing! How did you train that? Is there a certain Dvd that would help me? My dog starts spinning if I even try to send her 5 or 10 feet from an obstacle. I'm 15 and do agility (AKC and USDAA) with a 7or 8 year old Beagle, who has just started to slow down a little. We may not be as good and fast as you and Dazzle, but we have a lot of fun training and competing. You guys are our inspiration. Thanks.

  • my jack russell terrier kia she loves agility best sport going and this is a great video

  • Great video. Not ure if everything is the same in England, but i'm sure it's pretty much the same? :D

  • Yes, it's better to. You will need to (unless you have a willing person near by to hold your dog's leash) crate your dog while you walk the courses. Hope that helped :))

  • do you need to crate train your dog if you want to train him for agility? would it help in focusing?

  • this is wondreful!! 5 stars!! thank you for making and posting this vid!!!
