They don't make shows like this anymore. I don't even bother to watch the networks.

Bottom line is that it has become a very bottom feeding kind of business now. What is lost is that you can be cool and have a decent life with out the bragging of living in a great neighborhood (which is what reality TV is doing now). in the 70s&80s never was there once the mention of bragging about "the subuarban charm" and all of that trash. Now it is about "lockdown" and Catching Predators" and interviewing criminals..like wtf..it is a way of keeping folks scared& separated& thanks to cable

You said it nd they did this to themselves. They did not respect the viewers' choices and what happened is that you are seeing a A LOT of laziness in the business. There were the children of these high quality producers who came in through the back door, were given a slap on the back to keep the family name going and these folks never understood the concept of churning out great product. They do not even want to pay the actors for anything & so they found it cheaper to reality bite everything

This is exactly what I have been on and on about through out the YT community. I really believe that these sorts of shows CAN be produced with the same type of higher quality , however, what changes it was coming into the 1990s where the atmosphere of the new generation(the new high school kids) were taught to watch WWF and that other dumb show which could not take family life very seriously. Producers began to delve into thse odd pockets of lifestyles that they thought would spike ratings.

There's some good stuff today, but the '70s and '80s were a magical time.

I remember watching this episode on TV Land during the Warner Brothers anniversary weekend. I literally ran to my dorm room to catch Eight Is Enough and The Hogan Family.
