The Canary Islands of La Palma and Tenerife played host to a novel experiment that could lead to a new way of measuring greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. The experiment involved shooting beams of shortwave infrared light, guided by green laser, from an observatory in La Palma to an observatory 144 km away in Tenerife.
