Federe yapılı Belçika'da Flamanca yayın yapan devlet radyo ve televizyonu VRT'nin birinci kanalında "De Pappenheimers" adlı bilgi yarışmasına katılan, bağımsızlık yanlısı Yeni Flaman İttifakı (N-VA) partisinin Başkan Yardımcısı ve Flaman Parlamentosu Başkanı Jan Peter Peumans (59), doğru cevabı bildiği halde "Yahudilere bir şey söyleyecek cesareti olmadığı için" Türklere hakareti tercih etti.

Yarışmada ünlü Fransız düşünür Voltaire'in, "Dünya yüzündeki en iğrenç halk" olarak hangi milleti tanımladığı sorusunda bildiğini itiraf ettiği doğru
şık "Yahudiler" yerine "Türkler" şıkkını tercih eden Peumans'la sunucu Tom Lenaerts ve diğer yarışmacı olan Yönetmen Jan Eelen arasında şu diyalog yaşandı:

Lenaerts: "Türkler cevabını verdiniz ama doğrusu Yahudiler idi. Bunu gerçekten biliyor muydunuz?"

Peumans: "Gerçekten biliyordum ama Yahudiler hakkında yeni birşey söyleyecek cesaretim yok. Çok hassas insanlar. Bir zamanlar onların sözde
liberalizmi hakkında bir şeyler söyledim ama çok çektim. Bu nedenle.." Eelen: "Fakat Türkler hakkında söylemek meğer sorun değilmiş"

The Pappenheimers is a famous quiz show on the Belgian state TV.

When asked which nation was the most disgusting on the face of earth in famous French philosopher Voltaire's opinion during the "De Pappenheimers" quiz show on the VRT channel on Sunday, Peumans -- who is also a member of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) -- said that among the choices presented to him -- "Flemish, Jews or Turks" -- he knew the answer was Jews, but because he "did not have the courage to say anything against them" he would say Turks instead.

"I really knew it [correctly] but I do not have any courage to say something new about Jews. They are very sensitive people. I once said something about their liberalism and it really caused me a lot of trouble," Peumans had said. Following his words, film director Jan Eelen, another contestant, told Peumans that "it appears saying something against Turks is not a problem, then."

Ok I am Turkish and i am Flemish.Jan Peumans is not a racist. He cannot answer the Flemish because he is Flemish. He cannot say the Jews because the minute he says that every Jew in Belgium would be "angry", say he is anti semitic and should apologize(like they always do). He said the Turks, he knows it was the Jews he is a well educated man he is not stupid. I'm not insulted. Blame the man who made this question! @Rednospunk actually we had a government, the only problem was: making a new one. They wanted to split the flanders from the fench basterds a bit more (the voting), but the french basterds said no, OR we want money for it :p something like that. So the talking took 500+ days, in stead of ...... 3 days/weeks/months in other countrys. I wouldn't want to be a politician here to be honnest. There are so many difficulties bitween north and south.... small country, big problems :p but they succeded =)

@CilicianElite P9.I'll be away for a while so I'm not sure if I'll be able to reply again. Sorry if I can't. I hope our goverments will sort this issue out in some way. By the way, I'm living in Turkey and I'm 26. I lived in Los Angeles when I was a kid but just for a few months. I liked there very much.But if ever go to the States again, next time I'll go to Vegas :)

@CilicianElite P8.You said it yourself that a step towards apology should be taken. True. If not apology, some goodwill gesture at least. But I'm saying that it should not be one way. Turks should admit that there was an Armenian massacre. Armenians should admit that there was a Turkish massacre. If you don't agree with this and still think that Armenians didn't mean to kill Turks and they're angels then I have nothing to say to you.

@CilicianElite P7.Nothing good came out of Turks? LOL this is a typical bigoted behavior. I suggest you to read other Non-European sources on the history of Turks. I'm the one who witnesses the games that have been played on my nation. You know nothing about these since you're not Turkish. I'm saying again: The ultimate aim of the West is to make Anatolia a Christian land and exile Turks. That's what this is all about and we Turks live with that threat.
