Through creating the Highland Saucer, I was introduced to the developer behind Oakland's Jack London Square. I met with him and his director of marketing to talk about public art possibilities at the Square. They asked me to propose an installation for the holidays. There focus is a 5x5 grid of palm trees.
I created this maquette as a toned down and abstracted version of a bolder concept in which the stars emanate from the gun barrel of a shopping cart tank. I suggested a handful of suspended shopping carts firing stars through the palms.
