Downie types will soon be gone as nature has a beautiful way of balancing itself out. 3 Goons (whilst very nice guys they say) are off this planet due to repeated pressure of a brain swelling mode of getting paid.

@hockey3761 Great point. Any business leader caters to "what brought you to the dance". The NFL knows that 70% of the fans don't care for endzone celebrations, while 30% do, so they cater to the majority. The NHL is so sensitive in its marketing efforts that it takes a feminine approach of not upsetting anyone (not meant in a negative manner). They advertise "Toughest game on Earth". Bullshit. Rugby/Lacrosse would laugh. Bring back soft pads and the NHL can be what it once was.

@swassontelus Great point. More people go to the games to see Savard, Crosby, Sedin, etc. then they do to see Cooke, Downie, etc. Hearing that Savard is going to miss another season...:/

The NHL is catering to the market study that 5-10% of fans like goons in hockey, but it is quickly losing millions of potential fans by keeping Downie types in the league. Hockey is a great game but it is run by folks who simply don't have the pulse of what fans find entertaining. Dives, cheap shots and useless fighting keeps hockey below Harvard Rowing in terms of popularity in Boston and they just won the cup.

Downie has calmed down A LOT.. almost a night and day difference from when he was a Flyer to now with Tampa.

who is the more gutless scumbag, Downie or Cooke ? I'm prolly a bit biased as B's fan.. easy call for me...interested in other opinions tho.
