Lake Manitou, Manitoulin Island

The name 'Manitou' is used among First Nations people of the Algonquian-Wakashan linguistic tradition to describe the supernatural power that permeates all things. Thus the reason for calling this island, and specifically this lake, God's country.

We've been returning for 45 years because it is indeed God's country. This is the place where I find my spiritual grounding...

God's creation is my cathedral, the incredible sunset my Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo did not have a brush which could paint a sunset as beautiful as this.

The loons and the chickadees are God's acolytes and servants....

The scent of cedar and sweet grass, the incense of God, wafting on the gentle breezes...

Oh, and If I catch a bass or two...that's ok. But it's still a good day fishing either way :)
