Bill passed away in his sleep in a motel room in Georgia on July 23rd, 2011. He'd stopped over to rest en route to Philadelphia to visit his mother. Peterborough Folk Music Society President and Program Director, Deb McWethy, hosted Bill Morrissey at many PFMS shows and reflected, "Bill was a man who had demons to fight every day of his life. While he was with us he handled them with grace and humor even though through his music and stories we often heard his pain, and also his beautiful words about love and loss and about our place on this earth. My last conversations with him made me want to go to him and give him a hug. At the same time I know in his heart he knew we all loved him. It was his battle and we all gave him what we could; our attendance at his concerts, our standing ovations, booking him at our venues and playing his music for ourselves and our friends. Rest in peace , Bill. Your music carries on forever."

  • Thank you paganmaestro, what a beautiful tribute to Bill Morrissey.

  • Goodbye, Bill. You will be missed. You were the first NH Seacoast Musician way back in the 70's when the Stone Church in Newmarket was cool, to make me feel welcome into the music scene there. And I sat there in awe of your amazing songwriting talent. Your insight, was amazing You spoke for the people, You wrote for them and you sang to them and gave all you had too give. You were the best damn songwriter in NH . We all have "junk" to deal with or choose not to, privately. Genius in public. Mel
