according to TravelWeekly: Futuristic hotel to open in Amsterdam

(23 June 2008)

Dutch hotel group citizenM opened its first futuristic hotel at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam this week.

The company also announced plans to open 20 others in Europe over the next five years.

The 230-room hotel, which opens on Tuesday, allows guests to choose their room preferences when they book or at any point afterwards.

They can select specific themes such as 'relaxation', 'romance' or 'business' to set predefined settings.

The other option is to choose individual settings, such as favourite TV channels, music, preferred temperature and lighting scheme. The audio features include an alarm clock that be programmed with options such as 'wake me gently' or 'wake me wildly'.

Once the guest has used the self check-in screens, the room will be automatically adjusted for them. These changes are then stored for the next time the guest books a citizenM property.

The hotel prices are kept low -rates start at €69 a night -by assembling all the rooms offsite in its own factory. Only the ground floor is assembled in the normal way and the rooms are stacked above.

The company plans to roll out citizenM in Europe, with hotels planned for London, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Moscow and Stockholm over the next five years.
