I work in methanol plant the methanol flame can't be seen in day light you will feel the heat only .. in the night it's blue ..

Great burning of methanol. shirleynaylor(dot)mysynergy(do

@MOKO200 I would have thought it had to do with the length of the carbon-carbon chains. In methanol, dimethyl ether and methane there are no carbon-carbon bonds so only a very small amount of soot is produced. Soot is a very good black-body, with a high surface area to weight ratio and a very black surface, so it emits a lot of redish-yellow light in a flame.

I run "Purified" Methanol in my race truck. It seems to burn more consistantly than high octane race fuel. As a couple people said below, on a cold startup if it backfires, you can't see the flame. Thats scary but hell it's life. Lol.

@FreonRose oh shit! Bad tings for sure mon!

oooo, im guessing the pure methanol is the blue flame

pure methanol burns with a clean flame as the percentage of carbon is comparitively less to the percentage of oxygen.. but in the case of impure methanol the percentage of carbon is more.. hence incomplete combustion takes place.. i hope im right.. i jus studied this!... :p
