The same is with Ossetia:
for the last 20 years Ossetia was de facto an independent state.
and Ossetia also had its referendum of independence
so after that Ossetians become independent de jure.
then, if you remember, how many times Georgians attacked Ossetia
and killed people there, - its hard to expect that Ossetians change their mind
because of your opinion or because of opinion of any other stranger.
