The globe has warmed and cooled thousands of times, extinction is an outcome of the evolutionary process, trillions are going down the drain thanks to Barack 0bama, and his oligarch bosses have his next term sewed up. That said, Shenendoah is one of the most lovely tunes in existence. Keith Jarret's take is the one that brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

I listen to a lot of different artists performing in a lot of different genres. In general, artists only seem to be able to excel in a single genre, though they might have some crossover success. What is most impressive about RF is that she is able to excel in every genre she moves into. I don't think I've come across a single klinker in her repertoire of songs.
She is exquisite in this arrangement of River Songs: The Water Is Wide/Shenandoah. In some quarters, classical vocalists are critized for singing the more popular genres. Two opera legends, Adelina Patti and Nellie Melba, never failed to delight their audiences with all sorts of "ditties." Brava to Fleming!
