I believe everyone is barking up the wrong tree when it comes to explanations. On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles scared everyone with his "War of the Worlds" radio drama broadcasts. I believe this gave the USAF an idea to create a cover story behind aircraft research done in the area. Spies hostile to us in the Cold War would be thrown off the scent as to what we were developing because they would dismiss it as UFO nonsense. I think the USAF & that nurse put on a show for that mortician guy.
