Up until the early 90s, BBC television in england would broadcast still captions with music between programmes in the daytime. These programmes were often aimed at schools, and so the gap was needed to get classes in and out of school television rooms when VCRs were not as widespread. The slide caption would be followed by a countdown clock for the last minute running up to the programme start.

  • Thanks for IDing the music.

  • Yes, on BBC1, daytime programmes started in 1986. Schools programmes were moved from BBC1 to BBC2 in 1983, and so I assume there were just Pages From Ceefax between the end of 'BBC Breakfast Time' and whatever the first lunchtime programme was until then.

  • Pages from Ceefax had replaced Test Card F for periods of downtime longer than 15 mins by the start of 1983.
