In an attempt to capture the meaning of Jimi Hendrix's rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, I created this video montage, combining clips of Hendrix's performance, with clips from the Vietnam War. Native American writer Sherman Alexie devotes one of his most highly anthologized vignettes to this (what I consider an) abstruse rendition of the national anthem. While splicing Vietnam images with images of Hendrix's performance, it is my hope that I can shed light on the mastery of a guitarist who uses five strings to bring the horror of war to center stage.
