Havana Daydreaming (Flying Over Cuba)

Flying over Cuba on our way between Key West and Grand Cayman. Actually, some of the photos/clips are from on the way there, and some are from on the way back, but I mixed them up to make a better video. Dean's just Havana Daydreaming, so they don't have to be in chronological order! :-) We had to get a special Cuban Overflight Permit to do this, and talked to Cuban air traffic controllers (Havana Center) while we were in their airspace. We were over Cuba for about half an hour, and in their airspace for 1.5 hours, each way. Cuba's water was incredibly beautiful!

@pavelavietor1 Yes, we flew over again in 2010, on a return visit to Grand Cayman.

Was there a lot of red tape to get the

flyover permit or was it fairly easy?

It was very easy. We filed a request with Caribbean Flying Adventures (one of the organizations that can deal with the Cuban government), they provided the permit number a day or two later, and then we included that number in our international flight plan.

Must have been a great trip! Thanks for sharing the video. Reminded me of when I use to work flight ops. First day on the job and had to call the Cuban Civil Aviation authority for an overflight permit for a life flight trip. I'm thinking I screw this up and get the jet shot down I'm going to loose my job. All went well, just a $325 charge on the corp AMEX and got a confirmation number.

I find your admissions(intakes) of the airplane, about Cuba and the Caymans super-duper. We fly every year after Cuba and take there vacation. There we have flown by old, small Russian double-deckers and a helicopter around(about). This was very adventurous, because the machines were ancient. By the way, my father was a pilot with the military, so maybe I fly so with pleasure. However, this goes only on vacation. For own small machine I lack the money.
