The grandiose new Bridge of Strings at the entrance to the city of Jerusalem is set to be inaugurated on Wednesday night, amid much controversy and criticism. While many Jerusalem residents believe that the bridge is a tastleless and extravagant waste of money, city officials argue that it is new landmark for the city and a remarkable achievement for the State of Israel. The state of the art bridge was created to hold a future light rail system which will eventually run throughout the city of Jerualem. It was designed by world renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and cost over 246 million shekels to build, more than three times its original budget.
