This is an impromptu sit down at my Gretsch drum set in my studio space. I was working on a 5 note grouping in 1/16th notes.....sticking is RLRKK RLRKK RLRKK R......I voiced it on Snare, Tom, Floor then Kick Kick....repeated 3 times with a 1/16th left over in the measure that I either put on my snare in the form as a ruff going into the cymbal for the downbeat.

The jam ended up being a loosey goosey jazzy groove which is a blast to play.....Keith Carlock and Stanton Moore come to mind. I recorded this on a Flip Mino for the video and audio edited in iMovie.

It's been a blast to document with video and audio some drum stuff I've been doing as of late in the form of sessions, gigs and practice/ideas/concepts. It is the age of this you know!!!!!.....BTW, I love when other drummers I admire or just get turned on to do this sort of thing. What a great learning tool as well as inspiring.....K

  • what's the sticking for the fill your doing between the snare and the floor tom at 2.30 iv never see that before, sounds great

  • Simple is good when it feels right and it's in the moment. Just an idea I happen to catch on video...the drums made me do it!!!!!
