People can share in a single mind, or they can be of one mind so to speak just like spirits, I've experienced this with a group before.
By sharing a single belief system they can all simultaneously see the same thing through the eyes of God or a spiritual so to speak, and be unified or one in mind because of it.

We do the same thing really but we experience duality of belief, so we can believe in the opposite direction.
For instance we can believe in existence or non-existence, but we would call a belief in non-existence unbelief.

It was a single entity speaking through the man for all of them present it said: I am legion we are many.
That's the way I read it anyway could be wrong.
For spirits, aliens, demons, or whatever you like to call them, its like a hive mind, because its a single belief that binds them all together, it keeps them working for the same purpose in a unity of service.
Its not possible for them not to believe, they must believe.
