Aye quite right - when i first went to life outside of Britain it shocked me how almost every other country in the world refers to the UK as 'England'. Fair enough if you are speaking JUST about England, like the Lake District or somewhere... but normally they mean somethinng that applies to the whole of the UK! As a Scot, i hate that habit - 10 million Celts dismissed in a word!

I dare say it's been my Country for a wee bit longer than yours, seeing as I now very old but still have the wit to support the team from where I was born. And it's not an easy thing to do...the only cups we see are filled with Bovril. :-)

@boychildnew1 much like how the World refers to 'America' for only the USA, but sorta forgets about the rest of the Americas: Canada & Latin America. The US is the US *of* America, not all of it.

imagine if the Netherlands renamed themselves 'The Netherlands of Europe' & then referred to 'UnEuropeans' to mean 'something I don't like, or can't figure out a way to call 'UnChristian' or 'AntiChrist'" or something...

its just tedious.

@jasyman That's unfortunately very true, American television has too many advert breaks. However, when I lived in the UK, I noticed that about half of what was being broadcast were American programs, so I guess we make up for it by having good shows on. :-P
