We used to do something like that when we lived in So. Cal. We had a year-round pass and we'd just tell the kids we were going out for dinner... After a few times, they stared knowing the landmarks on the drive over and got wise to us. It was great, a couple rides, dinner a couple more rides, then back home, even on a school night.
