May 15, 1996 the day before E3 was to kick off @ the L.A. Convention Center. Nintendo invited the Press from all over the world to the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown L.A. It was the unveiling of "Nintendo 64"!

Friends and I were waiting in the lobby before the presentation when we noticed an entourage of Japanese businessmen. One of them was the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto!! They were heading towards the restroom. The night before I couldn't sleep at all because of the excitement. We were going to be THE FIRST to witness the Nintendo 64 and a new Mario game ! I packed my knapsack with few things including some games incase I ran into some game celebs :)
As Mr. Miyamoto and his collegues made it out of the restroom - we approached him and asked if he could sign my Yoshi's Island (Super NES) cart. Without question, Mr. Miyamoto was obliged to sign the back of my cart. Not only did he sign it and dated it. But he also drew a Mario headshot ! My friend had his picture taken and Mr. Miyamoto was on his way to the presentation. Truly and awesome experience!

Also in the clip are photos of my two signed Nintendo carts. In 2002, I ran into Mr. Miyamoto again after he gave a keynote address before E3. He signed and dated my copy of Zelda: Ocarina of Time!

Thanks Mr. Miyamoto - you're one of the grestest!

  • Some call him the Disney of video games. More like, the God of video games.

  • @ledawg1138 - Gumpei Yokoi & Shigeru Miyamoto is why the gaming industry is flourishing today. Game developers today were inspired by their work even though they decide to create something non-platform.

  • what conditions r the games in rite now?

  • The games are in pristine shape - they've never been played on since they've been in the hands of Mr. Miyamoto. I bought spares of both titles anyways. Both the signed carts, box, and docs are in a safety deposit box until I can get them properly displayed in a custom designed shadowbox.

  • You've made it my mission to meet this man in person.

  • There's a good chance you'll meet him someday. Just be on the look out for special appearences of Mr. Miyamoto here in the States. I'd recommend you to type his name and keywords into the Google Alerts. That way anything having to do with Shigeru Miyamoto will show up ^_^

  • @Grooveraider Wow, very useful for stalking, thanks! =P

  • @MarioLuigi25 Heh heh, I've thought of doing the same thing. ;) Maybe even joining Nintendo Power.

  • I'm going to join Nintendo one day and become apart of their industry.

  • Would you trade those signed games for an awesome copy of COD 4 signed by its world famous director? Maybe a signed copy of Crash Bandicoot Warped that my absurdly ignorant friends claim is a better game than every Mario? Sounds ridiculous but Johnny Xbox says that Mario is teh suck. So many of them talk this utter bollocks. To games, Miyamoto is DW Griffith, Orson Welles and Steven Spielberg and more rolled into one, forming the medium's actual gameplay conventions then doing do again in 3d.

  • please tell me how you got invited there please

  • @Grooveraider its because everyone hated games till the NES came out then they were like nintendo? NINTENDO??!?!

NINTENDOW SICKSTEY FOUER?!?#@?$#?^?%&#^GVY7/%^!@#!@#!1!@131 ONE ONE ELEVEN
