Akitas are renowned for being completely fearless. They will protect their owners from anything and feel no pain. I've seen Kane with a 2 inch thorn through his paw connected to a 3 foot branch without so much as a whimper. He'll stand his ground whatever the circumstances if he thinks his pack is threatened. He's as powerful as a bull and as sharp as you want.....

However....
We've found his Achilles heel. He won't even go into 2 feet of water to get his favourite ball back. What a wuss!!

  • Hi my name is mrs mulholland I live in Augusta ga I had a Akita dog witch I thing is the same one you have got a few years back my dad became ill so I could not take care of him so I gave him to a Mexican friend if he is the same dog I would like to just no how he's doing so please reply thanks.

  • @MsMag2 He's not I'm afraid. I live in the UK and my boy was born in Sheffield. Sorry to hear you had to give your dog away, that must have been a terrible heartbreak.

  • If he saw another dog on the beach what would he do ?

  • @daredd5 I forgot to say, he's totally cool with puppies. He's a big softie with them. He'll roll over and let them do what they want with him.

  • @daredd5 It all depends on the other dog really. If the dog is playful then he'll play, although he does play quite roughly. If the dog is aggressive in any way then, well, let's just say I try and avoid that situation.

  • @TheJazzylee123 I'd like to say he's fine with other dogs but in all honesty we were on a completely deserted beach. We only let him off when we're alone. He's great with people though.

  • i have had 2 males over 18 years i have done alot of hiking with both in parks and wilderness areas and i have noticed that both of them became much more alert and aggressive out in the woods. my first, shogun, actually got along pretty well with other dogs (as long as they were properly submissive, of course) and nipped a tail wagging female lab when she just took a step in my direction, so be careful with letting them off leash. also dont make akitas swim, most of them cant or wont.

  • @daredd5 A fully grown male Akita only does territory, as he should. In the company of his bitches (that includes the human female here ) he will enforce his tis territory. If there is another male dog in the vicinity he enforce his territory. Out with his pack with his bitches he will tolerate female dogs so long as his bitches tolerate other dogs. If any of these rules are broken he will enforce his territory. A fully grown male Akita >= 50kg of territorial awesomeness.

  • lol that is too cute, our akita is kinda afraid to go in water too, our husky had to dunk her before she went out willingly, hahaha

  • @TreyMMA Go to a breeder, and see if they have any 2-3 year olds. Their market value is much less after they're no longer puppies, and sometimes people return them and the breeder is looking for someone to take it away. You can bargain down the price in such a situation.

  • @TheJazzylee123 i had an akita (who sadly just passed away) and we had no issues letting her off her leash, at the dog beach here, and at all the dog parks she did great, she was great with kids and adults, and i've never met an akita who acted much otherwise. I agree with doctordrew66 though, another dog gets aggressive...well just avoid those situations lol

  • @doctordrew66 Same with my pitbull; and the only damn problems I have is when people on the street; not like this of couse; let their dog roam around free of a leash.

  • @doctordrew66 I want an Akita, but everywhere I've looked in the states they cost three and four times the price of a Husky ( both with papers of course ). So I'm wondering if have any ideas how I can get an Akita that doesn't break the bank?

  • beautiful dog :D i have one that looks just like him/her
