At around 3pm on December 29, 2010, the water at Goldstream Park in Victoria suddenly turned neon green. They did some testing, and apparently someone dumped something called "Fluorescein" in the water.

Here are my photos from the day: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaynekaye/sets/72157625577498109/

My friend, Tyson Elder, took some photos as well: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tysonelder/sets/72157625703184264/

I've decided to re-enable comments, despite common sense telling me it's not a good idea...you're now free to resume making such brilliant insights as "FAKE AND GAY LOL", saying it's part of some kind of government conspiracy, or posting biblical quotes saying it's related to all the recent mass bird/fish deaths and a sign of the apocalypse. Enjoy...and remember: http://xkcd.com/481/

  • I live a few towns from there, and I know more than all you stupid morons, who laugh at this terrible scene, that this river is where hundreds and thousands of salmon come for migrating. It's as if you see a sign that says, no polluting, and you just have to go ahead and do it anyway like you're some awesome rebel who doesn't give two shits about the god damn planet! This not FAKE, this is not GAY, this is REAL, and it's not A FUCKING JOKE!! Plants and animals are dying because of this shit!!

  • @Karuminu Is it stupid? Definitely. However, Fluorescein is only harmful in extremely high concentrations. Apparently, even though this looks scary, it actually wouldn't require a concentration anywhere near being remotely dangerous to the ecosystem. I'm definitely not condoning the act (vandalism on the whole is ridiculous, plus this required wasting a lot of resources on investigating/testing), but it's actually not "dangerous" or "deadly".

  • It's ... beautiful

  • Now that global warming and climate change has been shown to be a total Lie !!!, those eco-nut liberals are now pulling out and using every possible lie, trick, fraud, or publicity stunt they can find, to push their unconstitutional, corporate and U.N. controled, globalist, socialist agenda, That is being used to steal away every person on the planets Natural Rights to access to all forms of life sustaining natural resources. Wake up people, it is all about money and control over resources !!!.

  • strange.

  • i could fish here for years, and i still wouldn't get anything

  • Kanada....

  • Good info. Thanks. We need more action. I just found out that the people at my local water treatment facility : SafewayWater(dot)com are releasing massive amounts of dihydrogen monoxide into the environment.

Very troubling since their web site claims to be environmentally friendly

  • do not know if this river deserves the song "Green River" by Creedence Clearwater Revival

  • @Hemshring nope i was there the other day its back to normal now

  • @Karuminu actually your wrong this caused absolutely no harm to fish or plants at all.... this was just i joke with harmless dye and it is funny....but if we apply what you said to how we dump real toxins in the river than you are completely right and we need to stop it..
