Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee makes a quip about an offstage noise at the NRA convention in Kentucky, suggesting presidential hopeful Barack Obama was diving for the floor because someone was aiming a gun at him. (May 16)

@hunterc16 When did you ever hear another candidate for the presidency of the United States make a joke about another like this. In front of an NRA crowd, hearing a bang back stage and quickly I must say, coming up with that one... turning it into being a gun (NRA crowd remember) aimed at the first genuine candidacy of a black man in this country, who just may get elected. You're in total denial and you know it. (yes, yes... you do)

I don't think it was scripted. I lived in AR when Huck was governor and I am always hard pressed to find something positive to say about him. One thing I can say is that he has a very quick wit. Often, and in my opinion in this case, it gives us a glimpse into what a slimeball Huckabee really is.

i can understand your feelings, could even have passed it off as well. but then i read comment somewhere, a guy suggested that this was probablly how the KKK leaders joked about killing Dr King until they found a way to actually do it... If it wasn't scripted, and the noise heard offstage was an accident, then yes, it was a "joke gone bad" - just a Freudian slip.

But what if it was staged? What would you say then?

It looks staged to me. Watch the timing of his delivery. If it was extemporaneous, Huckabee would have taken a little more time to formulate this rather elaborate scenario. But his lines were all ready.

That changes it completely. It is a crime to threaten a presidential candidate. Huckabee is a criminal.
