@darknumber000 Checkout the latest videos regarding air direction. You may draw your lower jaw forward a little to get the air out straight but please do not force it forward. It should be a very subtle movement. Many players have done serious damage by trying to push their jaw unnaturally far forward. Learn to draw the aperture corners inward ===><=== as you ascend but DO NOT pinch the middle of the lips. Imagine the air between the lips is spinning, keep that going all the way up.

@steevojackass You are definitely choking off if you are getting a sore throat. The process of learning to loosen the oscillating lip takes time and must be developed in the low register. Then as you ascend, working on speeding up harmonic slurs, you will recognise where you are starting to push and tighten.

@jabamon2k Thanks for your insightful comment. The big problem with brass playing is pinching the aperture and then blowing hard to get the tight lip tissue to vibrate. This exercise is about keeping the aperture loose. I don't mind if the mouthpiece is buzzing; it is how the buzz is initiated that is what you need to be concerned about. You want to maintain freedom in the sound, not pinching and tightness that affects the entire body and reduces resonance of tone. Thanks, Greg

@arborwaychet Hi there, thanks for your comments! I have a slight over-bite so where as some players move their jaw forward and get the air up, I maintain a reasonably straight forward airstream so the slight tilt of the horn is a natural compensation. I do not think about trying to tilt the horn! It is purely a result of the the change in SHAPE. The bottom lip maintains the Uuuu shape when ascending, the aperture corners come in ===>U<=== The top lip is not overlapping the lower lip. Cheers

@mysterytomastery1 So I have a natural slight overbite where my top lip slightly is more forward than my lower lip. How can I stop the overlap into the upper register, do I need to tilt my jaw forward? I'm extremely confused and daily this discourages me to the point where I just feel like not playing anymore!

so i think the part that i'm still not understanding is the playing louder without blowing harder part. i must be pinching, tensing up, blowing too much air, or all of the above, because i can play high register notes quietly , but when i go to open it up it cuts off immediately and when i'm done playing my throat is sore for days

Best explanation I've ever heard and I've had lessons with some of the greatest trumpet teachers and performers in the world of our time. Thank you, this is a wealth of information! You have broken the myth that a great teacher can't be a great player...you are both!

really insightful videos!! had a couple of questions, i'm someone who although has being playing the trumpet for over 10 years still struggles up to high C. I was trying out the thing with the leadpipe and was able to do what you demonstrated, as in blowing air through the mouthpiece then putting the trumpet on and making a sound. However as soon as i tried to go to the high harmonic and pulled the mouthpiece out i found the mouthpiece was buzzing and it wasnt air blowing at like the lower one
