I caught up with an installer putting some equipment into our brand new roadside cabinet. This is what he had to say.

  • @iceflyevents It wouldn't be redundant if it didn't support bi-directional. The telco I work for does bi-directional to all the DSLAM's if one fiber link goes dark. Not that it matters.

  • @phattieg Yes and no. I believe it has to be configured to allow bi-directional (Half Duplex) over one fibre core (The end equipment would have to support it aswell).

  • @iceflyevents But if one of the two connections go dark, the remaining connection goes bi-directional. Other more likely scenario, the two wires are basically a ring/loop. One goes dark, the loop still see's light coming from the other way, and also triggers a condition alarm about loss of laser/light on the fiber.

  • naughty - no anti static wrist strap!!

  • awww, puppy wants high speed intenet as well ;P

  • Why does the guy say there is redundancy and there are 2 fibre optical cables? One of them is for receiving data and one is for sending data so obviously there isn't any backup.

  • @sulimi4ever95 Sounds like u've got an adsl connection with a adsl2+ compatible modem. I'm on 256k adsl and get 6Mbps

  • @sulimi4ever95 i have adsl 8Mbps and i get 1MBps you have shit internet

  • What speed are you getting now?

  • any ideas on how to destroy that equipment? so my isp will update my speeds.
