The last trip from my tremendous Cornwall adventure. The forecast was not good, and I didn't fancy the exposed North coast, so, it was a choice of Fowey, or a journey home. Wimped out, and headed for the South coast, and the shelter of Fowey, and the river.First thing to note is Fowey is pronounced 'FOY',apologies if You already know. I put in at the Bodinnick ferry, which @ £7 to cross 100metres of water works out at approx. £105 per mile!!!! the equivalent of crossing the Channel would be £2205.... I then paddled downstream, and out to sea, following the coast for about a mile to the South West, turning back at Southground point. Back into the River Fowey, a stop at Readymoney Cove, a brief exploration of St Catherine's Castle and some dinner on the beach. On the return, I crossed the river and explored the East side, and Polruan. Back up to the Ferry at Bodinnick, and Daphne Du Maurier's house, with the Figurehead on it, then up river beyond the Coasters, loading China Clay. This bit was tremendously interesting, with the Industry, small boat yards, derelict landing strips, Tugboats, Yachts at moorings, e.t.c.The final bit was really good, with Mullet swimming all around my boat, and lovely scenery, this would have been much better on a sunny day but it ws still very good, and at the turning point upstream, it felt like the end of Summer 2011, and was a quite melancholy moment, knowing I would be heading home, and most likely not experiencing warm weather again until 2012. If you like the look of this trip, I can say that the River Dart is very similar, in Devon.

  • Delightful !

  • @rdr555 So said the Carribean Gentleman, as He urinated in the Chandalier.........ha ha. Yes Fowey is delightful, wish I'd had more time, and sunnier weather. I guess, I will have to return, it's a perfect excuse.

  • Hi frank, great vid. I'm quite familiar with fowey as my uncle used to live in that fantastic place up on the rocks that looks like it was built just yesterday. He sold it about three years ago to Dawn French and Lenny Henry for a cool five and a half mill.

I've never seen Fowey from the water it really is fantakker. Shame you didn't have more time to explore the river still, good excuse for a return trip.

  • @Voodooacid69 Oh it's definitely worth another visit. One thing I omitted to mention, the car park, which cost £4 even in October, only allows you to pay until 5pm. Then you need to buy ANOTHER TICKET to cover the evening. The fucking robbing twats, of all the people in this world I'd love to see face a firing squad, then it's anybody who has anything to do with Local Authority car parking, including Hospitals - Fucking Parasites of the Earth, I regard Drug Addicts in higher esteem

  • @GBPaddling That's the Frank I know and love! For God's sake NOBODY mention the Councils!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @onlywhenpissed Councils, TV Licensing, you say potayto, I say potarto, tomayto, tomarto, make a da world a go round, ha ha. Voodoo never mentioned it, it was Me. Fuckin' lot want shootin.........with shit at least. Never paid to park in Lanzagrotty, did we? except entry to Papagaya, and do they have TV Licensing there? think not. I think an exploration further up the river would be most agreeable to one's constitution, don't you think?

  • @GBPaddling No doubt before going off to his Irish dentist Phil McCaffitty.

  • @gssg9 Ah, disclaimer here, I didn't bake the bread, ha ha. What a shot though eh? talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth, just imagine someone throwing a whole days food at you, then turning it down? second thoughts, don't. I guess, if I'd thrown some Sushi, the little Turnstone would've gone for it.

  • Cool and entertaining trip as ever. Not the best endorsement of your butty making abilities from the turn stone Frank. You know its bad when they opt for rocks instead..... :)

  • @alanshunter So would I, unfortunately, times are hard, and I bunk up in the Hotel Volkswagen, ha ha. I didn't even get time to sample the fine Ale in the Sailing Club, as I wanted to get home at a respectable hour.
