  • You need to harden up. The employer doesn't owe you anything. You started working for them and they didn't know anything about you. Things obviously didn't work out for them so you were let go, at their discretion. Get over it. Why should employees have the option to give 4 weeks notice at any time, often leaving employers in a difficult position, yet employers have no opportunity to let someone go if it's n ot working for them. 90 day trial wins! (and yes, I'm an employer)

  • @shoutwebdaniel So you take people on without knowing anything about them? Yes, who bothers with all that interviewing and checking of references stuff? When you employ someone you sign a contract which has certain responsibilities on both sides. You think giving 4 weeks notice is unfair? It's a contract, not bonded slavery. Your business matters to you. Don't you think your employees' jobs matter to them?

  • @NZCTU No need to patronise me. People can paint quite a different picture of themselves when applying for a job. And you're right, it's a contract, and the employer should have the right to let go of people they don't want working for them. It's their business.

  • @shoutwebdaniel Last time I looked there was nothing to stop employers setting standards for workers, telling them if they weren't meeting them, warning them they had to step up and sacking them if they didn't. That's fair. The 90 day law says you don't have to bother with that for 3 months. Why is that fair, and how does it encourage employers to recruit and train properly and how does it help poor workers improve? It encourages lazy bad business and legalises unfair dismissal.

  • @shoutwebdaniel If things weren't working out, then why not supply a reason, it seems illogical to get rid of someone without telling them where they are going wrong.

  • i really feel for you florence, if it's bad for you, i would hate to think what it's going to be like in the future with this on your record. just when you are starting out ,this employer tarnishes your work record, from day one. this is a sad day for new zealand. but bosses be warned you may get rid of the wrong person one day and like it happens in america they may take your life.

  • @NZCTU You are an idiot and this girl was treated badly
