Black Convict Cichlid Fight: Ricco and Sophie vs Spunky

Sophie and Ricco take on Spunky for supremacy of space in the aquarium.

Over the course of two days, the three engage in a territorial dispute over a small corner of the tank that sees eventual victory achieved by the mating couple.

Once the tank's power couple take control of the ornament in the corner, they lay their eggs in the centre well.

Males are generally larger and may have slightly longer fins and greater slope on their head however, I find its easiest to tell when there is a female around... males tend to pay a lot of attention to them and often they pair up

The eggs usually start out white but as the fry develop inside the eggs get darker. It takes about 3 days for the eggs to hatch once laid. Good luck with yours :)

yeah i bet... i have a communal tank i think you call it with lots of different fish, but my cichlids are my pride and joy lilly (female) has laid her eggs and bruiser has fertalided them but in such a weird place she laid them... are they meant to be black? We managed to find out where they were and all the eggs are black... i have never managed to see the eggs before hatching. so im rather excited any day now :)
