Day out to Eastern Kentucky September 2005 Reminds me so much of the border area of my homeland Scotland :-)
The native exhibition at the end of this video was the highlight !!

  • I couldn't really say where exactly it was, somewhere near Pikeville I think. We went through some old railway tunnels which are now roads. I think there my be maps on line of Eastern Kentucky railroads, and where the tunnels were.

  • Wish I had of known you then Robert! I would have driven down there to meet ya!! LOL Love the tunnel through the mountain!! So beautiful there!!

  • Yup i believe that is the

    nada tunnel

  • That is Nada Tunnel :Nada Tunnel was largely hand-carved to make a road for logging trucks back in the early 1900s. Two teams began in 1910 on each end and worked their way to the middle using steam-powered jackhammers and carbide lamps. The tunnel opened to railcars in 1912 and helped in the transportation of timber. This 900-foot tunnel is for one-lane traffic only and is a very unique way to enter the Red River Gorge. Nada Tunnel is on the National Register of Historic Places.

  • The tunnel at 1:00 looks like Nada Tunnel near the red river gorge.

  • LOOKS like your at the breaks which is a great place to visit so many times in the media and on the internet eastern ky is depicted as a slum junked cars and old satilite dishes this PROVES THEM WRONG thank yuou so much for your post

  • This is Nada Tunnel on rt. 77. Once you pass through the tunnel you decend in the Red River Gorge. I've spent many days camping, hiking and rock climbing in this canyon. Good fishing in the river too !

  • the next 15 miles or so through the frenchburg area is gorgeous (i think that's the way you're goin).

and it's so different from this side of the tunnel. it's like a tunnel into another world!

  • I've walked through that tunnel

  • yay this is where i live :D

  • that tunnel was too much!! one lane? aughhhhh
