On May 6th, 2010 Synergy Percussion (http://www.synergypercussion.com) presented the Australasian premiere of Steve Reich's Mallet Quartet at City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney.
Mallet Quartet was performed by Timothy Constable (Artistic Director), Alison Pratt, Josh Hill and Eugene Ughetti (courtesy of Speak Percussion).

Mallet Quartet (2009) is an unashamedly optimistic and radiant work, full of the driving rhythms, catchy melodies and beautiful harmonies for which Reich is famous. The work has been described as 'a beguiling, beautiful and sometimes perplexing creation' (Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle Music Critic).

  • I saw this live, it's really a remarkable piece, detailed, layered...it's incredibly difficult to play. I admit it took me a bit of time to re-frame how I was listening. I ended up being amazed.

  • @mellifiedman23 Yeah it's definitely not all in 4/4.... I'm pretty Steve Reich did a lot of really radical timings, maybe just to confuse people like me, but you're not fooled cause you know how to talk shit on youtube.

  • @mellifiedman23 Guess what... I own the score to this and there is literally not one single measure of 4/4 in this entire piece. So, why don't you know your stuff before you call somebody out.

  • @sunevrain9 So, why listen? I am not a musician, much less a percussionist (although, next reincarnation, watch out). I LOVE this piece and it's beautifully performed here. Excitement - tick. Entertainment - tick. You - you go now.

  • I would have liked to have seen more faces and wide outs and camera angles. Ah just as I typed this they showed a couple of faces... 3/4 of the way through. Beautiful, gentle music, very nice! Very skilled. I'm amazed they keep all of those notes straight.

  • Sunevrain9 your as gay as it gets go watch your generic shit and bag on that

  • Why would a non-percussionist waste time watching this you dumbshit

  • @cmthw1993 Raging? You mad bro?

  • These people should kill themselves, what a colossal amount of time they would have saved instead of coming up with this shit. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Did anybody ever recorded this kind of music to player? even the 8-bit music is better :o
