Here's the opening from 1967's "You Only Live Twice" featuring a rather obscure take on the theme song by Lorraine Chandler. Enjoy!

  • Both themes are great- and they should have used this at the end.

  • I'm all for this era of musicians' toying with dissonance, as well as the Motown/Spector "wall of sound", but in spots, this just sounds meanderingly out-of-tune to me. Like it or not, nobody was going to walk out of the theater whistling THIS one!!!

  • I remember this being played as a dance number in a late 60s variety show probably in anticipation of the film release. Wouldn't it be nice if someone had a video of that and posted it here? That would be great. Thank you.

  • @Alfrunk One drink from the cup of love And you might find The love that you taste Could be bitter wine But take a second chance You'll find love again And because life is love You'll be born again You'll be born again With a second chance You will find love again A new romance (You only live twice) You only live twice
  • @Alfrunk I can transcribe them? Tell me how this sounds: The loneliness you've known Will have to end When you find a new love You'll be born again And all those lonely hours Will be gone at last Because the man in you Has found romance (You only live twice) You only live twice (You only live twice) You only live twice
  • I think it's groovy.

  • interesting! Better than the Julie Rogers version, but the Nancy Sinatra version conquers all. In fact, it is probably the best of all Bond themes, IMO. Still, I like this a lot. Thanks for posting.

  • This is a Detroit recording from the Pied Piper Production team lead by Jack Ashford (former percussionist with the Motowns "Funk Brothers") and Lorraine Chandler herself. Incidentally Pied Piper had furnished Yvonne Baker with two tracks before she recorded you didn't say a word ... small world :-)

  • I'll go for 'The Association',because of the music & backing vocals, but it;s definately got that West Coast mid sixties sound.

  • Wish they'd used Lorraine's version...or Little Anthony and the Imperials which is sensational....and shame Yvonne Baker's 'You Didn't Say a Word' wasn't used in a Bond film...
