This video was produced in 2002 for the villages of Freeport and East Rockaway on Long Island. I was contracted by them to put together an educational piece that addresses their storm surge issues from hurricanes and nor'easters. The video features interviews with local officials and other experts including former NHC director, Max Mayfield. Even though it is seven years old now, the content is still relevant and important for people living in that region of the country.

  • I live in East Rockaway. My basement was under 5 ft of water. Lost everything. Watched surge pouring into apt. Idiot, I lived thru different hurricanes I didnt think the surge would be this bad. New moon, high tide and hurricane equals floods

  • Theres a good chance Hurricane Earl could threaten this area within the next 4 days. Dennis McCabe makes a very good point that people are comfortable not having seen any severe weather in serveral years. I live in New York and I think mother nature is going to give the southern coastal states a break and come for us.

  • I didn't know living there would be dangerous. Hope everyone there watches this and learns.
