The T-34/85 tank could not penetrate the frontal armor of the Tiger I tank except at close range at about 500 meters and under. The Tiger I however could kill the T-34/85 from virtually any range. This video is from a game that claims to be a "realistic tanking simulation": Red Orchestra : Ostfront. Its purpose is to call into question the game's realism.

  • The purpose of this film was to discredit the makers of Red Orchestra who claimed that their game was a realistic tanking simulation. If this were the case then the T-34/85 would only pose a threat to the frontal armor of the Tiger I at 500 meters (five hundred meters) and less as the World War II test at Kummersdorf revealed. The unfortunate fact is that in this game (Red Orchestra) the T-34/85 can frontally penetrate the Tiger I at 2,000 meters which is an insultingly unrealistic distance.

  • And 4 Tigers defeated 100 t-34s on several occasions. What's YOUR POINT ?

  • the few T34 that appeared in 1941 sure did change the battle scene

remember when comparing tanks designed 4 years apart

when the germans encountered the first T34 in 1941 they got a nasty surprise since their shells bounced off it, and only with 88 mm anti aircraft guns did they manage to knock it out

and get this the most numerous tank in the german army was not the Tiger or the Panther but the Panzer IV

  • The Tiger 1 was maybe 1vs1 stronger then the T 34 but the T 34 was still the better tank beucause it was much cheaper and reliable then the high advanced Tiger 1. And the whole war showed that quantity goes over quality.

  • what's the song name?

  • Exactly! Germans lost for the fact that their workhorse, as you say, was weaker than the russians. But in terms of firepower and maneuverability, the Pz4 can not really be compared to a more powerful t-34.

  • WASP - The Sherman Firefly took out its fair share of German tanks, including Tigers and Panthers. The regular Sherman's did too, as the German tanks couldn't thwart the Sherman tanks overwhelming numbers.

  • Manga de pajeros, es un juego!

  • Numbers are huge when the attrition rates are so high....again I agree.

You probably know the confusion regarding numbers of Heavy Panzers is largely due to soldiers encountering up-gunned and amored

PanzerIV's and the effects of it's super high velocity gun.

  • I hope this doesn't upset you, but I agree with your whole comment here! My only question is didn't they have the early problem-prone Panther's at Kursk in 1943, and the early Tiger I in late 1942 up in Leningrad? To be honest, actual 'design dates' I don't know...I am more into military aviation.

  • 3800 IS-2 heavy tanks could also change a battle more so than 1300 Tigers and 500 King Tigers

The Panzer IV was a far more common tank in the german army even in 1944 than either a Tiger or a Panther.

  • The Soviets also produced more IS-2 heavy tanks (3800) than the germans produced Tigers (1300) and King Tigers (500)

The IS-2 was made to counter the Tigers
