In der Aufzeichnung eines Fernsehinterviews, das Chatwin nicht lange vor seinem Ende gegeben hat, erblicken wir ihn, abgemagert bereits bis auf die sprichwörtlichen Knochen und mit weit, grausig weit aufgerissenen Augen,
wie er mit einer unschuldigen Passioniertheit sondergleichen erzählt von seiner letzten erfundenen Figur, dem Prager Porzellansammler Utz. Es ist dies die erschütterndste Epiphanie einer Schriftstellerperson, die ich kenne.
