25th July 2011, and I've made it out of LA, and the sky forcecasts look great. I find a nice hill which looks like it's got an observatory on it, and wait for dark.

There is wind and dust. A bad combo for anyone trying to point a telescope at a point source. The wind refuses to die down, so I look for something to do while waiting. Eventually I start playing with the lasers, and decide to laser my name into the local mountain. Cool, I haz it!. The wind still doesn't die down so I set up the 4mm lens for time lapse of the whole sky. The sky is penomanal, with the milkyway forming a glowing arch from horizon to horizon. It a nice galaxy to be lost in :-)

  • I didn't even know you could see through California's atmosphere.

  • @Gyohdon It's funny to me that a lot of people watching this have no idea that it's thunderf00t. I suppose it is awesome in it's own right.

  • @Gyohdon Will do. :o

  • What was that flashing in your car? Were you smoking?

  • @nashertheatheist planes usual have more than one color...

  • @ZeerosFate California has a unique blue sky seen nowhere else in the world.

  • it's funny how the last star you showed as the sun. tripped my balls out a little bit.

  • @NiNJack Shhh, you'll ruin the joke.

  • Tfoot... I love this lapse, but you need to subtract a dark frame. It wouldn't be too difficult with your setup. Just drape a black cloth over your camera before you start shooting for the night and subtract that frame from your subs. That would eliminate most of those hot pixels and would produce a much cleaner image.

  • @queenofyeay He is near Ridgecrest, Ca, about 90 miles north of LA in the high desert.

  • Hey ThunderfOOt, I enjoyed that one, and I sent you a time lapse of some lenticular clouds at sunset that I shot about 20 minutes farther west into the mountains from where you shot this.

  • Very cool. :)
