The IOP's physics education project in Uganda - find out what local teachers think they need to improve physics teaching and education.

The IOP's Physics for Development programme challenges the obstacles to physics education existing in some of the poorest countries in the world. Through the dissemination of physics, we aim to support local communities towards greater opportunities for the future.

How IOP makes a difference

We train teachers to enhance their subject knowledge and give them the practical skills to show students the myriad of applications physics can have.
We provide ICT equipment by setting up local ICT centres, which are made available to other schools in neighbouring communities.
We encourage students at all levels to embrace physics and make the most of the opportunities that a knowledge of physics has to offer.
We train local craftsmen to build experimental equipment, ensuring that the projects can ultimately become self-sustaining and enhance employment
IOP strives to make local communities ultimately self-sustaining in their ability to use physics as a vehicle out of poverty.

The ripple effect of our projects is far-reaching -- neighbouring schools have access to resource the centres, and an IOP-trained teacher will pass on their knowledge to a new generation.

A small amount of money can make a big difference in Africa. Whether you would like to contribute a small or large amount, we can tell you exactly what your donation can achieve.
