Bibbie is our pet cockatoo who sadly has "beak and feather disease". It is something that is incurable, but with regular vet visits to trim his beak and nails he is doing better. He was rescued in this condition and despite what it may appear, is actually doing far better now. When rescued his beak was so overgrown and weak he couldn't eat anything but bread; now he is able to eat seed again. If you're interested in finding out more, you can see his blog: http://bibbiebird.blogspot.com

  • He does do a good job, as does the lady vet if she happens to be there. Mind you I make it as hard as I can for them. They ignore my screeches though I still hope - but I wriggle and grab onto things a lot. The towel round me makes even that hard and they put me on my back so they can get my beak.. I stare them in the eye and try to tell them I hate them. And then, once back in my cage, my "hook" has gone and I can't climb till I get used to it again. But I can eat and it feels good.

  • Bibbie has a viral parrot disease called Psittacine Beak and Feather Syndrome or Disease. Feathers vanish and are abnormal if there are any, and beak overgrows. Immunity to disease vanishes. In the wild he would be dead. He has to have vet trim his beak back every month or so.

  • He is not feather p[lucking. He has Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (or syndrome) which causes loss of feathers and overgrown beak. Diagnosed by the vet. I suggest you look it up. It is an untreatable and unpreventable virus, very infectious to other parrots and ultimately kills them especially in the wild - he cannot fly and without regular vet intervention his beak would be so overgrown he could not eat and it would be dug well through his chest.

  • Aww bless him. Well done for rescuing him.

  • @friezafullpower1 ....He has a disease.

  • I named this disease PBFD and continue to seek answers for it and feel I am much closer to being able to help many, especially via quantum. see my websites pbfdcircovirus or its twin psittacinebeakfeatherdisease and also cockatoohealth dotcom

  • Aw, he's gone. =((( Made the better choice. Bless you guys for doing what you could for him. <3

  • Breaks my heart. =( Poor baby.

  • WHAT THE FUCK!?

  • Featherless birds somehow combine ungliness, cuteness and sadness I think.

Mostly sadness. Then cuteness. Ugliness is way down there, but as much as I want to, I can't deny that it's there.

  • omg he looks like a baby cockatoo :)

  • you are doing great with ur parrot, i myself am a parrot owner and vet, youre doing great, it peaple like you that give these lovely birds a real life, just keep her happy, and give her a big x from charline.
