  • Well played, but perhaps a little slow. Bartok stated quite specifically that the piece should last exactly 1 minute and 40 seconds. Some work on dynamics would make this a great rendition - the piece sounded a little flat, although there are really only 3 different dynamic markings (f, ff and p). Apologies if the lack of dynamics is the recording (some mics compress the dynamic range).

  • The dynamic range is a combination of mic compression and the piano. As nice as it was to play on, it's very old, and very difficult to get contrast in any register.

I played this one day in masterclass the best I ever had, and thereafter I was never able to get it quite right. Not really an excuse, but there you have it!

  • Why there is a paper on the piano, "Ichi-go, itchi-e" (We meet only one time on one chance)?

Anyway, certainly Bartok himself determined total duration as 1' 40". However, I think any player could play the piece in any tempo. I'ver heard that Bartok's friend, Violist Josef Szigeti said Bartok's metlonom didn't click correctly. Therefore, I think we should not discuss about the tempo; instead we should discuss about the playing itself.

  • i play this piece in 1minute

    it's quiet scary

  • Nice Work..im learning this for my exam in March!! Thanks for Posting:D

  • i played this in my 8th grade piano exam and you where very very good conmpared to what i played. i got and A which means you probably would of gotten a A++ so i just loved the way you played it
