North Carolina's community fiber broadband networks, including Fibrant in Salisbury and Greenlight in Wilson, offer the best broadband deals and highest speeds in the state. Unfortunately, pro-Time Warner Cable legislation threatens them and the ability of other communities to duplicate their successes.

On May 20, 2011, NC Governor Perdue decided not to veto to the bill and it thus became law (as that is what happens in NC when the Governor takes no action). North Carolina's communities, for now, have very little power to build the networks they need to thrive in the digital economy.

Slime Warner's fingerprints all over this. Standard TWC tactics. They've been after Greenlight from the get-go. Scary when there's a competitor eh? Might have to actually work to keep/satisfy your customers. Perish the thought!

This bill doesn't sound good. I've not researched this at all, but I don't mind govt subsidizing the interwebs. The tubes are so important, should be a basic life service like water or electricity.
