Welcome to a glimpse in to Ultimate Guru Music's latest audio-visual journey. Our latest expedition - a 2-DVD, 180 minute set shot in HiDef Video, is entitled "The Art of Indian Fusion Drumming" and features Indian Percussion maestro Taufiq Qureshi.

Disc One features Taufiq with fellow musicians in an exciting Live-In-The-Studio perormance. Showcased are Taufiq's varied musical styles and influences, traversing Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian) styles. Taufiq switches between the Djembe and his unique drum/percussion kit as his instrument of choice; his accompanying artistes include
seasoned artistes on vocals, Mridangam, Tabla, Harmnium and Sitar.

Disc Two features an in-depth Djembe tutorial showcasing Taufiq's newly-developed language for playing Hindustani Classical Indian beats on the universal single-drum that is the Djembe (or "Tabal" in Indian parlance). Also included is footage of Taufiq playing his favorite grooves, an impromptu Djembe Jam with Jakes Srinivasan, and an informative interview with Taufiq. He talks about his primary musical influences (which include his late father, the legendary Tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha; brother Zakir Hussain (the renowned World Rhythm and Tabla maestro); and Pandit Vikku Vinayakram (the venerable ghatam, Carnatic Classical music and world fusion legend), and also about his vision for the future of Indian and Fusion music.

This project was filmed in the summer of 2010 and has been released (for buying information, look below). • i've been trying to find this one video for so long... the title said "the harmony of rhtyhm" and i think the guys name was kostas or something, but he must've changed the title....he was playing along to a metronome, and altering the speed so the pulse is shifted off of the tempo, but he'd be able to be off tempo dead on, and he can place it off in different areas, and be dead on with the placement.

  • awesome DVD! :)

  • Yeah!! Cool stuff!! Lots of skill and talent!! Wow!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • Do you know what type of drum the students on the left are playing at 0:30? It's the wide shallow one on a stand, played with sticks.
