THOMSON ILLINOIS SMALL TOWN WANTS GITMO DETAINEES WILL CREATE JOBS

There is a small town called Thomson, in Illinois that is lobbying to have Gitmo detainees moved to it's empty jail . The reason given is it will help create new jobs for this small town in desperate need of jobs .Why is this such an issue ? Republicans playing the fear card, that's why .Just like Republicans are playing the fear card with the 9/11 suspects being tried in the U.S. I think it's a good idea for the families who lost loved ones, it will bring closer, and show we are a country of laws again . Terrorist only win if they make a mockery of our justice system, like Bush allowed with Gitmo . What these low lives did on 9/11 was a criminal act on a massive scale . However, to say it was a declaration of war and they can't be tried on U.S. soil, is foolishness .We declare war with other countries .A terrorist organization isn't a country . They must be given a speedy trail and if found guilty executed for the crimes on 9/11 .

HA! I am from IL, so I will refrain from commenting on the IQ of my former state's population.

I have no doubt that they will be glad for any job at all. When you are desperate, even the worst jobs seem like a godsend. It is just a sad statement about our society that their "miracle" is a prison and not a car factory, cannery, clothing manufacturer, electronics plant, or any number of other constructive rather than punative employers. More jobs = less crime = less jails

i agree with you however thomson people should be glad to have the jobs and the prison operating...furthermore, what does it matter if you have terrorist there or a nick sheeley? they are all killers. sterling should be glad to have their courthouse hold the trials there because they have nothing in that town for jobs. my only concern is that sterling is full of half witts who cant pass a drug test even if they studied for it let alone guard a courthouse.

It is so sad that so many communities are struggling to build their economies on such negative industries such as prisons and legalized gambling. It was a different story when America had manufacturing jobs here to drive our local economies.
